Salt n Pepper is a well directed variety love story..Really liked this one..Aashiq Abu's Sensational direction and great performances from all the cast seals the deal..
Story is something new and its definitely an impressive one.The way aashiq abu developed the story and sequences deserves an appreciation..The movie maintains a nice flow throughout..Many situation comedies burst the crowd into laughter..Feeling like this after a long time..Lal,Shwetha,Asif all were excellent..
Special mentions for Baburaj-he really stole the show . . Baburaj at his awesome best..

Synopsis- A peppy little love storyover mobile phone between Kalidasan (Lal) & Maya (Shwetha Menon)..Script & Direction- Eventhough the title suggests something interesting,the storyline is thin n kinda stale.The theme is something you have seen in mostof Sreenivasan's earlier films regarding inferiority complex.Since it got a wafer thin plot,the writers didn't have the luxury to come up with with an exceptional product.So they along with the director continued the art of packaging (something Aashique Abu has done n failed with his debut film).Now this film is unique n fresh regarding casting n treatment.I am sure very few dares to cast Lal,Baburaj,ShwethaMenon n a couple of youngsters in a commercial film.Secondly,the comic moments revolving aroundthese people have worked out well.Now as a downer,I didn't find the role of food making withthe theme appealing.Plus the weakness of the script started to get exposed at regular intervals where the film runs out of steam n we hope the film reach its predictable finishing line as soon as possible.The love story between Manu n Meenakshi was half-baked.But on a final note,its a cute little movie which can be easily watchable,if you don't take it seriously.

Cast & Performance- Lal was apt for the role of Kalidasan.If one of the Big Ms has done this role,we would have left it aside as one of their regular roles,Lal gave an interesting aspect to the role with his unique style of acting.Baburaj got a role which provides him mileage more than footage n he did it quite well.The chemistry between Lal n Baburaj is the selling point of this film.AsifAli with his loud performance came close to irritation.Mythili in contrast was pretty decent n looked cute.Shwetha Menon did agood job as the female protagonist.Vijayaraghvan,Kalpana did well with their supporting roles..Music & Background Score-Kaanmaanullal...is feel good melody which is picturised well.Rest of the songs weren't appealing especially the Jayachandran's number.The Avial song played during the closing credits.The background score was pretty interesting where unique sounds n Avial's Number was used to give it a peppy touch..Technical Expertise- Shyju Khalid's cinematography was exceptional only during the "Kaanmanullal" song.Otherwise,it didn't have much of an impact.The editing should have been a bit more crispier..Bottomline-A WATCHABLE film especially when you have nothing to do n no great releases around...you might find flaws in this film but I am sure none are expecting anything after seeing the cast ndirector's previous venture.Ratings-6.25/10

saw the film first day itself from changanssery anu...i felt pity about the theatre owners Bcoz one 4th rate bollywood flick in the big capcity theatre abhinaya n dis malayalm movie in small theatre...in these situations we think there should have been some restrictions for other language movies in kerala atleast for first one or two weeks...
Hmm well...about the theatre status, balcony was house full and 90% in the first class...we reached the theatre after hearing some good reviews from the first show watchers...so watched the film with some expectations...but surprisingly, the film was above all our expectations...an ordinary story executed in an extra ordinary way...kudos to aashiq abu n crew

Hmm well...about the theatre status, balcony was house full and 90% in the first class...we reached the theatre after hearing some good reviews from the first show watchers...so watched the film with some expectations...but surprisingly, the film was above all our expectations...an ordinary story executed in an extra ordinary way...kudos to aashiq abu n crew

Too heavy to be tagged as romcom, but also simply a lighthearted film which doesn't take itself too seriously and bestows plenty of good laughs along the way. Even we ignore some slip-ups in screenplay this film is certainly a whiff of fresh air and career makeover for actors like Baburaj. Delicious movie without much dull moments.

Wat a movie with lot of variety..a must see movie 4 al malayees..from dosa making to avial band, all jelled together nicely.
-d movie contains a simple story but it is told in a colorful& attractive way..credit to aasiq abu
-cast is perfect match 4 d script..main cast lal,asif ali, swetha, mythilli done justice to der role...d different baburaj is worth watchin
-bgm add punch to d sequences..
-songs r well made especially d one 'kanna..' wid asif and mythilli in it...d song is well shot one
-d importance to food is rare in movie...dey have shown d famous hotels in kerala and how much food can influence us
-light hearted comedies r also nice and d costumes are pleasing

Yummy! That's the exact word that popped into my mind, two minutes into the movie. I ain't a foodie, but nevertheless couldn't help slurping. The only thing I particularly liked about Aashiq Abu's last ventureDaddy Cool was its title graphics. And it was great again.
Coming into the movie, the story is as simple as it could get. That was a major positive of the movie, I would say, as I feel simpler, shorter stories can make better scripts, if written well, for 2 - 2 ½ hour movie. Due credit should be given to the writers Syam Pushkaran and Dileesh Nair, who have baked a delicious script, out of a Dosa story.
The performances of the lead actors were simply splendid. Lal and Shwetha crafted out their roles with ease. Asif Ali is getting better with each movie. Mythili looked pretty and was good. The director I believe, had tremendous confidence in Baburaj, and he didn't disappoint at all. In fact, he indeed is one of the major highlight of this light hearted movie. Rest of the supporting actors - Vijayaraghavan as Balakrishnan, Ahmed Siddhique as Mirash and Mandakini :-), too did a good job.
Shyju Khalid, the director of photography, has once again proved his mettle, after Traffic with his catchy frames especially in the song Kaanamullaal. Editing by V. Saajan was crisp. Bijibal was at his best with the soundtrack. Premmikkumpol is the pick of the album for me; great rendering by Bhava Gayakan and Neha Nair. Aanakkallan by Avial concluded things in style! But the title song Chempaavu, was the best on screen. :D
The theatre response was awesome, and there were intermittent applause throughout the movie. This review wouldn't make much of a difference to the prosperous fate of this yummy entertainer at the box-office, but couldn't help doing a write-up. :-)

Aashiq Abu is the kind of Director which malayalam expects or wants.This is the very first kind of ROMANTIC COMEDY movie in malayalam.,i think.
Scriptwriters have done a good job in creating good sequences under a simple story.The film is an example of malayali's changing approach towards comedy.We are learning to laugh for a light heart comedy.Thats a good sign.Casting is also very apt.
All the actors played well.No overplays or underplays.Special credit should be given for Baburaj.It was actually turning point acing.Villain turning comedian s not new in malayalam.Janardhanan,Cochin Haneefa etc are good examples.Hope we will get a good comedian from this.

ഈ ചിത്രം കാണാന് വലിയ താല്പര്യം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല.പിന്നെ നല്ല അഭിപ്രായങ്ങള് കേട്ടപ്പോള് കാണാമെന്നു കരുതി.ഞാന് തിരുവനന്തപുരത്തു നിന്നു കാണുന്ന ആദ്യ സിനിമ.
കേരളത്തിലെ വിവിധ ഇനം വിഭവങ്ങള് കാണിച്ചു കൊണ്ടാണ് പടം തുടങ്ങുന്നത്.അതിനു ശേഷം കഥയിലേക്കു കടക്കുന്നു.വളരെ ലളിതമായ കഥയാണ്. പക്ഷേ 2 മണിക്കൂറ് പിടിച്ചിരുത്താനുള്ള തിരക്കഥയാണ് സിനിമയുടെ ശക്തി.മലയാള സിനിമയില് അധികമൊന്നും വരാത്ത രീതിയിലാണ് പടം മുന്നോട്ട് പോകുന്നതു. ചിത്രം പറയുന്നതു പ്രണയ കഥയാണ്. അതിനു പശ്ചാത്തലം ഭക്ഷണ പ്രേമവും.ആസിഫ് അലിയും അറ്ച്ചന കവിയും തമ്മില് ട്രെയിനിലുള്ള ആദ്യ രംഗം വളരെ നന്നായിരുന്നു. നല്ല തമാശകളോടെ ഒട്ടും ബോററ്റിപ്പിക്കാതെ ഒന്നാം പകുതി അവസാനിക്കുന്നു.പല സ്ഥലങ്ങളിലും നാവില് കൊതിയൂറുന്ന രംഗങ്ങള് ഒന്നാം പകുതിയിയിലുണ്ടു.
രണ്ടാം പകുതിയില് ചിത്രം കുറച്ചു കൂടി കാര്യത്തിലേക്കു കടക്കുന്നു. അപ്പോള് പല രംഗങ്ങളും പ്രത്യേകിച്ച് വൈകാരിക രംഗങ്ങള് വളരെ ലാഗിങ്ങായി തോന്നി.പല രംഗങ്ങളും ആവറ്ത്തിച്ചതും വിരസത്യുണ്ടാക്കി.ഷാജി കൈലാസിനെ ഓറ്മ്മിപ്പിക്കുന്ന തമാശകള് ആദ്യം നന്നായെങ്കിലും ആവറ്ത്തനം ബോററ്റിപ്പിച്ചു.പക്ഷേ ഇതൊന്നും അത്ര അധികം നേരം ഇല്ല. രണ്ടാം പകുതിയിലും മികച്ച നറ്മ്മ മുഹൂറ്ത്ത്ങ്ങള് ചിത്രത്തിലുണ്ട്.ഒടുക്കം കഥ കൈവിട്ടു പോകാതെ തന്നെ നല്ല രീതിയില് ചിത്രം അവസാനിക്കുന്നു.എന്നാല് രണ്ടാം പ്കുതി അത്ര പോരാ.പക്ഷേ ലളിതമായ ഒരു കഥ വളച്ചു കെട്ടില്ലാതെ നല്ല രീതിയില് പറഞ്ഞ കഥയാണ് സാള്ട്ട് & പെപ്പറ്.

നല്ല തിരക്കഥ തന്നെയാണ് നവാഗതരായ ശ്യാം പുഷ്കറും ദിലീഷു നായരും ചേറ്ന്ന് രചിച്ചിട്ടുള്ളതു. വളരെ കുറച്ചു നേരം മാത്രം പറയാനുള്ള സംഗതി ഒരു 2 മണിക്കൂറ് സിനിമ ആയി പറഞ്ഞെങ്കിലും ഒരിടത്തും കഥയില്ലായ്മ അനുഭവപ്പെട്ടില്ല.വളരെ നല്ല രീതിയില് ചളിയാക്കാതെ തമാശകള് ഉണ്ട് എന്നതാണ് മറ്റൊരു നല്ല കാര്യം.നല്ല തിരക്കഥ തന്നെയാണ് ഈ ചിത്രത്തിന്റ്റെയും അറ്റിത്തറ.
ലാലും ശ്വേതാ മേനോനുമാണ് നായികാ നായകന്മാറ് എന്നതു കൌതുകരമായ കാര്യമാണ്.ലാല് ഉഗ്രനായിരുന്നു. ശ്വേതയും നന്നായിരുന്നു. ആദ്യമൊക്കെ രതിച്ചേച്ചി വിളിയുണ്ടായിരുന്നെങ്കിലും പിന്നീട് അതു നിന്നു.സ്വന്തമായി ഡബ്ബിങ്ങ് ചെയ്യാത്ത ശ്വേത ഡബ്ബിങ്ങ് ആറ്ട്ടിസ്റ്റായിട്ടാണ് വേഷമെങ്കിലും ഒട്ടും മോശമാക്കിയില്ല.ബാബുരാജിന്റ്റെ വ്യത്യസ്ത്മായ കോമഡി വേഷം ധാരാളം കൈയടി നേടി.ആസിഫ് അലിയും മൈഥിലിയും വിജയരാഘവനും നല്ല രീതിയില് തന്നെ അവരുടെ വേഷങ്ങള് ചെയ്തു.
സന്തോഷ് വറ്മ്മയും റഫീക്ക് അഹമ്മദും രചിച്ച് ബിജിപാല് ഈണം നല്കിയ ഗാനങ്ങള് അതിമനോഹരം, തകതിന്ന എന്നു തുടങ്ങുന്ന ടൈറ്റില് സോങ്ങ് പ്രേമിക്കുമ്പോള് ,കാണാനുള്ള തുടങ്ങിയ ഗാനങ്ങള് മനസ്സില് നില്ക്കുന്നതാണ്.അവസാനം ആനക്കള്ളന് എന്ന റോക്കു സോങ്ങിന്റ്റെ ആവശ്യം ഇല്ലായിരുന്നു.ബിജിപാലിന്റ്റെ പശ്ചാത്തല സംഗീതവും വളരെ മികച്ചു നിന്നു.
ഛായാഗ്രഹണം നന്നായിരുന്നു.എഡിറ്റിങ്ങ് കുറച്ചു കൂടി നന്നാക്കമായിരുന്നു.പ്രത്യേകിച്ചു രണ്ടാം പകുതി കുറച്ചു കൂടി ചുരുക്കാമായിരുന്നു.
പക്ഷേ യാതൊരു പ്രതീക്ഷയും വച്ചു പുലറ്ത്താതിരുന്ന ഈ ചിത്രം എനിക്കു ഇഷ്ടമായി.

quite easily one of the best love stories ever told in malayalam....the ingredients are innocence, laughter, pain,wonder, little mischief and loneliness sprinkled with true love.. everything in right proportion and it makes salt n pepper a wonderful dish.. take a bow team 9/10

Kudos to Ashiq Abu for creating such an entertainer from a wafer thin story line. If this guy get better scripts, he will do wonders for sure.

Still people are going crazy about this movie @ blr. Was almost full in a weekday..and all were clapping and enjoying the movie..
Kozhikode milk sarbath um paragon hotel um kandappol thanne paisa muthalayi...vallatha oru nostalgic feeling ayirunnu. Baburaj cheeri...enthada panni scene was the highlight...all done their roles well...simple acting by Asif (prithwy can learn a lesson or two out of it) Lal also was awesome..the phone disconnecton scene was ultimate acting...
Movie have mistakes and all..but who cares about it once you are so happy and fresh while going out of theater...

film starts of with of puspavathy's 'chembavu..' as title song...the music is good and great to see the visuals(Note:TV il kanikumbol ula visuals alla)
The film got lively with introduction of Asif Ali..The intro scene in d train gav a handful of laughs to d audience..
Mythili was stunning especially in d song 'kaanamulal'...which was also a very good romantic song ..bijipal rocks
song 'premikumbol..' was also very good 2 hear..
The movie is simple...no big twists...drama and all...but its d way it got executed..Ashiq Abu....excellent..

എല്ലാ മുന്നിര നടീനടന്മാരും നല്ല പ്രകടനം കാഴ്ചവെച്ചു. ബാബുരാജ്..ഹോ, കിണ്ണന് പെര്ഫോര്മന്സ്..!! പുള്ളിയാണ് ഷോസ്റ്റീലര്. ബാബു അണ്ണന് കൊട്ടാരക്കരക്കാരന് അല്ലേന്ന് ചോദിച്ചപ്പോള് തിയറ്ററിലിരുന്നു കോരിത്തരിച്ചുപോയി. പുള്ളിക്കാരന് കതിനാ നോക്കി "ഹായ് പച്ച" എന്ന് പറഞ്ഞപ്പോള് ശരിക്കും ചിരിച്ചു മറിഞ്ഞു. ലാല് ബാബുവിനെ അടിക്കുമ്പോള് കുറച്ചു സെന്റി വര്ക്ക് ഔട്ട് ചെയ്യാന് ആഷിക് അബു നോക്കിയെങ്കിലും ബാബുരാജിന്റെ മുഖം കണ്ടപ്പോള് കാണികള് മുഴുവന് ചിരിക്കുകയായിരുന്നു. അങ്ങനെ ആകെ മൊത്തം സിനിമയില് ബാബുരാജ് തന്നെ ഷൈന് ചെയ്തു നിന്നു.
ലാല് തനിക്കു കിട്ടുന്ന എല്ലാ വേഷങ്ങളെയും പോലെ കാളിദാസന്റെ റോളും വൃത്തിയായി ചെയ്തു. ആസിഫും കൊള്ളാം. ട്രെയിന് സീന് സൂപ്പര് ആയിരുന്നു. മനു ശരിക്കും ഇളുങ്കായിപ്പോയി. ഇതൊക്കെയാണ് പറ്റുകള്. ആ വൃത്തികെട്ട സ്വരം പുള്ളി കോമഡി ചെയ്യുമ്പോള് നന്നായി ചേരുന്നുണ്ട്. ബാക്കിയെല്ലാവരും നല്ല പെര്ഫോര്മന്സ്. 'പിശാശ്' സൂപ്പര് ആയിരുന്നു. ഇതേപോലത്തെ കുറേയെണ്ണത്തെ എന്റെ പതിനാലു വര്ഷത്തെ വിദ്യാലയജീവിതത്തില് എത്രയോ തവണ കണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നു. ആസിഫ് അവനെ നോക്കി ചീത്ത വിളിക്കുന്ന സീനിനു നല്ല കയ്യടി ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.പാട്ടുകളെല്ലാം കൊള്ളാമായിരുന്നു. ഒറ്റയടിക്ക് പറഞ്ഞു തീര്ക്കാന് പറ്റുന്ന ഒരു കഥ രണ്ട് മണിക്കൂറോളം ബോറടിപ്പിക്കാതെ പറയാന് ആഷികിനു കഴിഞ്ഞു. പുള്ളിക്ക് എല്ലാ വിധ ആശംസകളും.
തിയേറ്ററില് ഇരുന്നു ഇതുവരെ ഇത്രയും ആസ്വദിച്ച് ഭക്ഷണം കഴിച്ചിട്ടില്ല.

ആവശ്യത്തിനു നെയ്യൊഴിച്ച് ഒരു വശം മാത്രം മൊരിച്ച് ഉണ്ടാക്കുന്ന കുഞ്ഞു ദോശ,
അല്പം എരിവും, പുളിയും ഉള്ള ചമ്മന്തിയുടെ ഒപ്പം പൊട്ടുകടല അരച്ച. കപ്പല് മുളക് വഴറ്റിയ തേങ്ങാ ചമ്മന്തിയുംകൂട്ടി കഴിച്ചു കഴിയുമ്പോള് ഒന്നുകൂടി കിട്ടിയിരുന്നെങ്കില് എന്ന തോന്നും. എങ്കിലും നമ്മള് പറയും 'മതിയെന്ന്..'
ആ ഒരു സുഖത്തില് ലയിച്ചങ്ങനെ ഇരുന്നു ഈ സിനിമ കണ്ടു കഴിഞ്ഞപ്പോള്....

padam kandu.....direction,direction n direction all d way...ashiq abu kasari....performances wer top notch by lal n baburaj....swetha's boozing scene wasn't impressing....asif showed some glimpses of fun.....malayala cinema kaathirunna cinema aano ithu ennenikkariyilla...pakshe theerchayaayum kaathirunna oru vijayam thanne...cliches ellam ozhinju pokunnathinulla thudakkam aakatte...:-)
