George Thekkummuttil is back, this time as a movie star!!!!! Started as a weekend project by two mallu techies in US, Akkara Kazhachakkal has come across a long way.From a sit com that was uploaded through You tube, Akkara Kazchakal rose to popularity through word of mouth and finally achieved a cult status among mallu NRI’s all across the globe. A bunch of theatre enthusiasts (who worked just for passion!!!!!!) along with two passionate film makers, Abhi Varghese and Ajay Venugopal have created a niche for themselves in Malayalam entertainment industry with this innovative and thought provoking project.
Akkara Kazhchakal is a sarcastic portrayal of mallu community in US. George Thekkummuttil, the struggling insurance agent of “thekinmuttil “insurance, Rincy,George’s wife (a nurse who always do night duty, as pay rate is higher !!!!!) their two kids (wannabe yoyos ),Georges father , Grigiri (George’s assistant and an aspiring poet ) Baby Kuttan( nurse, who wants to save every cent ) Mahi ( recent nursing immigrant) , Baiju ( a techie who lost his job during recession and ended up working in an Indian dairy as a handyman)are the main characters . The sitcom reflects their day today life in a comical way.
Started in 2008 the show finally came to an end with the 50th episode.
After the success of the sitcom and taking a break for almost a year, the entire team is finally back, this time with a full length movie. The movie is expected to hit the theatres by the end of November. The transformation from a 10 minute sit com to a full length feature film is a huge task and that’s the challenge Ajay & Abi have taken. Will they deliver this time?
