URUMI - Prithvi with Santosh Sivan : Discussion

URUMI - Prithvi with Santosh Sivan : Discussion
Santosh Sivan, who has been described as the “real hero of Raavan” due to his stunning cinematography, has moved on and started work on a new film as director. It’ll be a bilingual and a period drama in Malayalam and Tamil with a working title — Urumi (a flexible sword) — and will star Prithviraj and the hot and happening Genelia.
Says Santosh, in an exclusive interview, “Yes I’m making a film titled Urumi with Prithvi and Genelia. The rest of the cast is yet to be finalised. Urumi is the 8-ft long flexible sword that has been used in Kalari fights for a long time. Sankar Ramakrishnan, who had directed the promising short film Island Express in the Kerala Cafe anthology, is writing the script. The film, a bilingual, is set in the 15th century and will be made for the international audiences.”

Genelia is Portuguese princess

IndiaGlitz [Wednesday, July 07, 2010]

She is already a popular face in Kerala after movies like ‘Boys’, ‘Sachin’ and ‘Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Naa’ doing well at the box office there. Genelia who has a great youth following in Kerala has finally found time to do a straight movie in Malayalam for the first time.

Genelia D'Souza will debut in Mollywood opposite another heartthrob Prithviraj in a new movie directed by Santhosh Sivan titled ‘Urumi’.

Urumi is a bilingual in Tamil and Malayalam based on the assassination of Vasco Da Gama. The film is about a group of men, who wanted to assassinate Vasco Da Gama. Genelia will play a Portuguese princess in this 15th century period film.

Santosh Sivan is already known for making critically acclaimed international projects ‘Terrorist’, ‘Navarasa’ and ‘Beyond the Rains’.

The latest buzz has it that Santosh Sivan, who was last involved with Mani Ratnam’s Raavan, is all set to embark on his new project as a director. The last film the talented maverick cinematographer had helmed was Tahaan: The Boy With A Grenade starring Rahul Bose and Rahul Khanna.

Prithviraj, Santosh Sivan & Prithvi's friend Shaji Natesan together have launched their own production company called AUGUST CINEMA

First production is, URUMI a multi-lingual film in Malayalam, Tamil & English (probably Hindi too). The English version's title is The Boy who wanted to kill Vasco da Gama.

Finally another actor who found a "producer" inside himself. Hope he'll come up with some good movies instead ofthanthonnifying us..

BTW One small doubt. I do have vague memory of one interview of Prithviraj where he admits that of a crush on a woman named "August" or something when he was in Australia. Ee AUGUST CINEMA-kku ithumaayi valla bandham undo??

Cinematic Cliches in Malayalam Movies

Anonymous Cinematic cliches! If you count the most repeated word in the history of cinema reviews it would probably be the word 'cliche'. The one word which kills all the hard work and brain storming effort of the writer ruthlessly, to utter disregard. Definition -  A cliché or cliche (pronounced klē-ˈshā) is a saying, expression, idea, or element of an artistic work which has been overused to the point of losing its original meaning or effect, rendering it a stereotype, especially when at some earlier time it was considered meaningful or novel. Just a thread to list down the various cinematic cliches u remember.  . Some egs of the cliched cliches - The brilliant twist which u cud see from a country mile, the typical hero savin heroine from the villains, the very carefully kept suspense which u were seeing for the umpteenth time, the lost and found series, the fight btw the hero & heroine b4 they fall in luv, the ever so caring hero cornered and evryone turnin agai...
