saw the movie frm ekm saritha.
the overall theme of the movie is quite good. but sadly the director has tried a bit too much .
we hav seen movies in which the story devolops in a different manner . for xample:
prithviraj is brought to the lock up by jagadheesh, inside which another person is waiting. the next few scenes shows hw that person came to the lock up. again comes the first scene, ie. prithvi entering the lock up.
the method is not that bad. but in 'the city of god', each and evry scene builds up in the above said manner. needless to say, the whole movie looks like a confusion, a lot of scenes repeatin 2 or 3 times. adhikamaayal amruthum visham .
from the fiest few scenes itself the audience can understand the fate of the movie. unlike in 'nayakan', here the director hasnt tries any slow motions. but that alone cant save this movie.
the story if said in a straight forward manner could hav been watchable.
rima plays surya , an actress. prithvi plays the friend of rich bussiness man sony,who has interst in surya. meanwhile surya is married to mehboob who just wants money and even forces surya to sleep with other men.
another parallel track devolops in a tamil background, with indrajith and parvathi playing the main roles.
sadly the 2 different tracks are very loosely packed into the movie. the audience are left with no interest in either of these tracks.
another main negative is the camera work, which is nothing but horrible.
there are a lot of scenes in which, i guess the cameraman was also running and jumping around with the actors.
about the positives- all the actors hav done commendable jobs, exept the guy who plays 'sony'. indrajith was outstanding . prithviraj , rima and parvathi all did their parts well. song picturizations r quite gud too.
overall ' the city of god' is a pathetic movie, which i dont think even people who like different cinema will enjoy.

Going by the promos , i never had the expectation of a commercial flick, just went in to watch something that holds my attention....
And the movie almost succeeded in holding my attention atleast most of the time, at the end it was yet another movie that can be treasured in the minds of serious movie lovers.....
Story:
Mainly about the different shades and faces of a city, being portrayed by different characters, it is a raw but riveting tale about a group of individuals who are entirely different from one another in every possible way and the connection between them and how they become a part in playing the role of fate in each others life.....
Be it the local gunda(Prithviraj) who is even ready to kill or die for his wrong-going friend or the actress(Rima) who is struggling under domestic and professional abuse or the wife of a business tycoon who just dreams of finishing off the murderers of her husband or the immigrant simpleton from Tamil Nadu(indrajith) who just want to lead his life by marrying his love, each and every character are the replica of someone whom we daily come across or pass-by at various points in our city...
The biggest positive and negative of the movie is the Director Lijo Jose Pellissery himself..
Coming up with a great storyline and a good script, he has tried and almost succeeded in bringing out something very different or quite pathbreaking from the recent Mollywood trademarks...
Each and every frame has his signature, it has come out the way he wanted to be or the way he wanted us to look at the characters, every character has their own emotional importance and the director has brilliantly succeeded in making the audiences understand them too..

Almost every part of the technical aspect has his backup and that shows on screen, he never thinks of pleasing some sections of the audience, just went straight with his way of story-telling throughout and that's where his negative lies.....Had he tried for some commercialization, it would have shown that effect in the box-office too....
Prithviraj as Jyothilal, a true friend who is even ready to kill and die, displays the skills perfectly whatever the role deamnded...
It may be too hard to find out some faults in his acting this time, maybe you can blame the scope of his character.....Wish he had more scope to perform, not forgetting the adrenaline-pumping action scenes which is one of his best till date...
Indrajith as Velu, the immigrant from tamil nadu who falls in love with his married co-worker from his own state, has ample scope to perform and he does it very well....He is simply superb in his role, too hard to find defects here too....
All others have done their parts exceptionally well especially Rima, Rohini, Parvathy etc....
The technical team too does a wonderful job, the bgm and the camerawork deserves a special mention....
Overall, this is certainly quite a good movie for serious movie lovers, something which is dark, different, raw and rivetting....
As for others, better keep away from this one as even the director himself never wished your presence....

തുടക്കത്തില് പ്രിത്വിയുടെ വാഹനം ഇടിക്കുന്നു...ഇടയില് ഇന്ദ്രജിത്തും ഒരു പെണ്കുട്ടിയും ബൈക്കില് പായുന്നു...അവരെ ഇടിക്കാതിരിക്കാന് ഒന്ന് വെട്ടിച്ചപ്പോഴാ സംഭവം...പടം തീരുമ്പോള് വീണ്ടും ഇവിടെ എത്തണം....

This film is surely the 'Ammores Perros' of Malayalam..
Non-linear aaya storytelling... athum parallel aayi 3 stories.. athinte vyakthathayode thanne eduthirikkunnu.. script work is awesome..
camera works was honest attempt.. little ameture in this perticular genre..
baakki technical sides ellam good.. directornu perfect vision undu... athu poornamayum sariyaanu ennu parayunnilla.. but the attempt was honest and sincere..
performance vice.. surprisingly naayikamaaraanu score cheythathu..
shwetha menon, rima, parvathy.. ellaarum top class performances.. indrajith was very good.. prithvi was also good.. ella supporting castum nannaayirunnu..
starting of the film was the best..
first half was flawless.. perfect.

Better than Nayakan But Flop for sure
തലശേരി-ലിബറ്ട്ടി പാരഡൈസ് 11.30 മണി ആദ്യ ദിനം ആദ്യ പ്രദറ്ശനം
ബാല്ക്കണി-100% ഫസ്റ്റ് ക്ലാസ്-10% സെക്കന്റ് ക്ലാസ്-90%
ലിജോ ജോസ് പെല്ലിശേരിയുടെ ‘നായകന്’ എന്ന ചിത്രം കണ്ടിട്ടുള്ളതു കൊണ്ട് ബോറന് പടമായിരിക്കും എന്ന മുന്വിധിയോടെയാണ് പോയത്.നായകന് വ്യത്യസ്തമായ ചിത്രമായിരുന്നെങ്കിലും വല്ലാതെ ബോറടിപ്പിചിരുന്നു.എന്നാല് എന്റെ മുന്വിധികളെ ഏറെക്കുറെ തെറ്റിച്ച ചിത്രമാണ് ‘സിറ്റി ഓഫ് ഗോഡ്’.
നായകന് പോലെ തന്നെയാണ് കഥാഖ്യാനശൈലി.തുട്ക്കം തന്നെ ഒരു ആക്സിഡന്റ്.പിന്നെ എങ്ങനെ അതു സംഭിചിച്ചു എന്നതു പല കഥാപാത്രങ്ങളുടേയും ജീവിതതിലൂടെ കാണിക്കുന്നു.ഏതാണ്ട് ട്രാഫിക്കിന്റെ ഒരു ശൈലിയിലാണ് കഥ പോകുന്നതു.എന്നാല് അത്ര ചടുലത ഇല്ല താനും.മികച്ച തിരക്കഥ തന്നെയാണ് ബാബു ജനാറ്ദനന് ഒന്നാം പകുതിക്കു വേണ്ടി ഒരുക്കിയിട്ടുള്ളതു.അതു വേണ്ട് രീതിയില് ഉപയോഗിക്കാന് സംവിധായകനു കഴിഞ്ഞു.വീണ്ടും ട്രാഫിക്കു പോലെയൊരു ചിത്രം എന്ന പ്രതീക്ഷ തന്നു കൊണ്ടാണ് ഒന്നാം പകുതി അവസാനിക്കുന്നത്.ഒന്നാം പ്കതി അതിഗംഭീരം.
എന്നാല് രണ്ടാം പകുതി ഒന്നാം പകുതിയുടെ അത്ര നന്നായില്ല.തിരക്കഥ അല്പ്പം ദുറ്ബലമായി.എന്നാലും മോശം എന്നു പറയാനകില്ല.ഏറെ നേരം തമിഴ് കഥപാത്രങ്ങളെയും അവരുടെ സംഭാഷണ്ങ്ങ്രും തന്നെ കാണിച്ചു കോണ്ടിരുന്നതു ബോറടിപ്പിച്ചു.ഒരു തമിഴു പടം പോലെയായിപ്പോയി.ഒന്നാം പ്കുതിയില് ഈ പ്രശ്നങ്ങളില്ലാതെ കാര്യങ്ങള് കൊണ്ടു പോകാന് ബാബു ജനാറ്ദനന് സാധിച്ചിരുന്ന.എന്നാല് രണ്ടാം പകുതിയില് തിരക്കഥയ്ക്ക് അത്ര കെട്ടുറപ്പില്ലാതെ പോയി.അനാവശ്യമായി പാട്ടുകള് രണ്ടാം പകുതിയെ കൂടുതല് വിരസമാക്കി.കാണാന് അധികം പേരില്ലത്തതു കൊണ്ട് കൂവലുണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല.പക്ഷെ ഒന്നാം പകുതിയുടെ അത്ര നന്നായില്ലെങ്കിലും വലിയ കുഴപ്പമൊന്നും ഇല്ലാതെ തന്നെ ചിത്രം അവസാനിക്കുന്നു.
പ്രിഥ്വിരാജും ഇന്ദ്രജിത്തും തങ്ങളുടെ റോളുകള് വളരെ നന്നായി ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ട്.ഡയലോഗ് ഡെലിവറി ഗംഭീരമായിട്ടുണ്ടു.റീമ കല്ലിങ്കില് ചിലയിടങ്ങളില് പതരിയെങ്കിലും നന്നായി.പാറ്വതിയും.ബാക്കി റോളുകള് ചെയ്തവരും നന്നായിരുന്നു.’ഐഡന്റിറ്റി’ ഉള്ള കഥാപാത്രങ്ങളാണ് ബാബു ജനാറ്ദനന് സ്രിഷ്ടിച്ചിട്ടുള്ളത്.

നായകന് പോലെ തന്നെയാണ് കഥാഖ്യാനശൈലി.തുട്ക്കം തന്നെ ഒരു ആക്സിഡന്റ്.പിന്നെ എങ്ങനെ അതു സംഭിചിച്ചു എന്നതു പല കഥാപാത്രങ്ങളുടേയും ജീവിതതിലൂടെ കാണിക്കുന്നു.ഏതാണ്ട് ട്രാഫിക്കിന്റെ ഒരു ശൈലിയിലാണ് കഥ പോകുന്നതു.എന്നാല് അത്ര ചടുലത ഇല്ല താനും.മികച്ച തിരക്കഥ തന്നെയാണ് ബാബു ജനാറ്ദനന് ഒന്നാം പകുതിക്കു വേണ്ടി ഒരുക്കിയിട്ടുള്ളതു.അതു വേണ്ട് രീതിയില് ഉപയോഗിക്കാന് സംവിധായകനു കഴിഞ്ഞു.വീണ്ടും ട്രാഫിക്കു പോലെയൊരു ചിത്രം എന്ന പ്രതീക്ഷ തന്നു കൊണ്ടാണ് ഒന്നാം പകുതി അവസാനിക്കുന്നത്.ഒന്നാം പ്കതി അതിഗംഭീരം.
എന്നാല് രണ്ടാം പകുതി ഒന്നാം പകുതിയുടെ അത്ര നന്നായില്ല.തിരക്കഥ അല്പ്പം ദുറ്ബലമായി.എന്നാലും മോശം എന്നു പറയാനകില്ല.ഏറെ നേരം തമിഴ് കഥപാത്രങ്ങളെയും അവരുടെ സംഭാഷണ്ങ്ങ്രും തന്നെ കാണിച്ചു കോണ്ടിരുന്നതു ബോറടിപ്പിച്ചു.ഒരു തമിഴു പടം പോലെയായിപ്പോയി.ഒന്നാം പ്കുതിയില് ഈ പ്രശ്നങ്ങളില്ലാതെ കാര്യങ്ങള് കൊണ്ടു പോകാന് ബാബു ജനാറ്ദനന് സാധിച്ചിരുന്ന.എന്നാല് രണ്ടാം പകുതിയില് തിരക്കഥയ്ക്ക് അത്ര കെട്ടുറപ്പില്ലാതെ പോയി.അനാവശ്യമായി പാട്ടുകള് രണ്ടാം പകുതിയെ കൂടുതല് വിരസമാക്കി.കാണാന് അധികം പേരില്ലത്തതു കൊണ്ട് കൂവലുണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല.പക്ഷെ ഒന്നാം പകുതിയുടെ അത്ര നന്നായില്ലെങ്കിലും വലിയ കുഴപ്പമൊന്നും ഇല്ലാതെ തന്നെ ചിത്രം അവസാനിക്കുന്നു.
പ്രിഥ്വിരാജും ഇന്ദ്രജിത്തും തങ്ങളുടെ റോളുകള് വളരെ നന്നായി ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ട്.ഡയലോഗ് ഡെലിവറി ഗംഭീരമായിട്ടുണ്ടു.റീമ കല്ലിങ്കില് ചിലയിടങ്ങളില് പതരിയെങ്കിലും നന്നായി.പാറ്വതിയും.ബാക്കി റോളുകള് ചെയ്തവരും നന്നായിരുന്നു.’ഐഡന്റിറ്റി’ ഉള്ള കഥാപാത്രങ്ങളാണ് ബാബു ജനാറ്ദനന് സ്രിഷ്ടിച്ചിട്ടുള്ളത്.

പലരും പറഞ്ഞതു പോലെ ഈചിത്രതിന്റെ വലിയ പോസിറ്റീവും നെഗറ്റീവും ഒരാള് തന്നെയാണ്.നായകന് ചെയ്തതു പോലെയാണ് ലിജോ ജോസ് പെല്ലിശേരി ഈ ചിത്രവും ചെയ്തിട്ടുള്ളതു.നായകനെക്കാള് ഏറെ മികച്ച ചിത്രം എന്നു പറയാം.ഒരു സംവിധായകന് എന്ന നിലയില് വളരെയധികം വളരെയധികം മെച്ചപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുണ്ട്.സ്ലോമോഷനുകള് ഒഴിവാക്കിയതു നന്നായി.പക്ഷേ ട്രാഫിക്ക് എന്ന ചിത്രം കണ്ടിട്ടുണ്ടെങ്കില് രണ്ടു ചിത്രങ്ങളും മലയാള് പ്രേക്ഷകറ്ക്ക് അപരിചിതവും അംഗീകരിക്കാന് ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടുള്ളതുമായ് പാതയില് സഞ്ചരിച്ചിട്ടും എന്തു കൊണ്ടു ട്രാഫിക്കു വിജയിച്ചു എന്നും ഈ ചിത്രം എന്തു കൊണ്ടു പരാജയപ്പേട്ടു എന്നും അദ്ദേഹതിനു മനസ്സിലാകും.ഒരു ആക്ഷന് ചിത്രം ത്രില്ലിങ്ങും എന്റ്ര്റ്റെയിനിങ്ങും ആകണം എന്നു പ്രെക്ഷകറ് വിചരിച്ചാല് അവരെ കുറ്റം പറയാനാകില്ല.

വാല്ക്കഷ്ണം-ലിജോ ജോസ് പെല്ലിശേരി സ്വന്തം അഭിരുചികളെ ത്രിപ്തിപ്പെടുതാനായി ഇനിയും ഇത്തരം ചിത്രങ്ങള് ചെയ്യാന് ആഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നുണ്ടാകും.എന്നാല് സ്വന്തം നിറ്മ്മാതാക്കളുടെ കീശയെക്കുറിച്ചെങ്കിലും ഓറ്ത്തു സ്വന്തം സിനിമകള് അല്പ്പം കൂടി സ്പീഡി/റേസി ആക്കുന്നതു നന്നായിരിക്കും.അല്ലെങ്കില് അദ്ദെഹം സിനിമകള് ചെയ്യാന് നിറ്മ്മാതാക്കളില്ലാതെ ലിജോ ‘ഫ്ലോപ്പ്’ പെല്ലിശേരി എന്ന പേരു വരുന്നതായിരിക്കും. എന്തായാലും നിറ്മ്മാതാവിനു ഒരു കാര്യത്തില് ആശ്വസിക്കം ഈ ചിത്രം നായകന്റെ അത്ര നഷ്ടം ഉണ്ടാക്കില്ല.

Synopsis - The movie focuses the lives of 4 people n how the lived interconnect with each other.

Script - Babu Janardhanan in my books is one of the most over-rated writers in Malayalam film Industry.Lack of real good writers give him the image of a good writer.While watching C:O:G,The lack of focus in the script department was visible throughout.Here we see the writer is providing a podium for the director to display his skills with a unique narrative technique.But if someone asks whats the story,the biggest flaw is exposed.Eventhough the film is about the lives of four people,only 3 (Prithviraj,Reema Kallingal & Shwetha Menon) are interconnected,while the fourth one (Indrajith) looked liked a forced addition in my opinion.The screenplay reaches straight to the plot and the sketch of each character is explained as the film moves one.But lack of strength for each character weakens the filmthroughout.At times you might experience a numb feeling with the happenings on screen.This is where a weak screenplay is exposed.

Direction - Lijo Jose Pallishery's debut work (Nayakan) impressed me with his uniqueness.Here also the director adopts a unique narrative technique to convey his storyline.The four stories are interconnected where a character from each story is used to narrate a scene which is later repeated by another character from the other story who is also featured in the same frame.Since the non-linear editing was adopted (which was essential for his narration),it might need some patience for the audience the get the grip of the whole stuff.But a flaw which was visible in Nayakan was repeated here.Lijo seems to be addicted with his narration n at times we can see he lost control of the whole stuff.He also forgot to get a strong screenplay to justify his directorial skill.Also the use of steady cam to frame a natural look to the whole film was bit too shaky n was never a pleasure for the eyes.

Cast & Performance - Prithviraj really didn't have anything to do.Look angry throughout the film with some brilliant action sequences to perform.This isn't a new stuff for the young actor.Indrajith was sincere to his role (eventhough he didn't really look like a Tamilian for me) but since he got the weakest storyline,his character at times irritate the flow of the film.Rohini,Parvathi (Notebook,Vinodhayaathra,Flash,Poo Fame) gave their heart n soul to their thankless roles.Rima Kallingal's dialect was a big flaw in her performance.It lacked clarity.Shwetha Menon really didn't have much to do n looked like an extended cameo.The guy who played Sony was noticeable.Jagadeesh was surprisingly good in his role as a police officer.Anil Murali has to play the role of quotation gunda which he is famous for .Nandu as the womanizer director was below average.

Bottomline -This isn't the film that you would expect to release every Friday (Saturday here )...The film would have been far far better if the director n the writer delivers a solid screenplay....If you are ready to watch the film for its unique approach by the director n forget every commercial element you can imagine (except fight sequences) with some patience to get a grip of the film,you can give its try.

Nayakan had everything for a Tarantino movie, except the script!
COG has the complicated narration from Nolan movies and nothing else.
The film starts with an accident. It is shown from different view points. The film ends with the same accident.

A different attempt.The effort is to be appreciated.
It needs complete attention from the side of the audience as we are used to spoonfeeding.
All the actors did a good job especially Indrajith,Prithviraj,Parvathy and Rohini.
Songs were not upto the mark and looked unwanted.The indrajith- parvathy song was not in the film.BGM was good.Cinematography was realistic but the hand held shots were too much in some portions.It may cause motion sickness for the viewers.
Script was ok, but couldn't find any link between the indrajith track and prrithviraj track and it takes a long time to establish the characters. The ending was not impressive.
Overall,this is something different among the usual masala flicks releasing every week.

Watched City Of God frm PAYYANUR... Status- maximum 80 people .Hmm its a different treatment... Bt all together an OK-Avg. Stuff.. First half was more interesting nd gripping than 2nd half.. @nd half felt dragging at many places.. There r flows in script at many places so as direction... Camera part i thnk they mainly used steady cam 4 originality look.. Action sequences l were good.. But Songs weren't catchy..
Performance wise Prithvi was really good. Before release I thought, Indrajith is d main hero nd Prithvi just supporting.. Indrajith had nothng much to do in d film... Thn Parvathi, Rohini, reema etc all did their job well. But tht Model turned Actor Dr.Rajiv Pilla was not tht much impressive with his acting skill.. It may be better 4 him to walk in RAMP itself..

ithinte reviews vaayichu albhutham thonnunnu. I liked the movie very much. Malayalathile oru mikacha thriller. Traffic pole ellavarum nallathennu paranjathukondu njanum paranju enna lineilulla film alla. Oru classic movie.
