വളരെ മികച്ചതോ , വളരെ മോശമോ അല്ലാത്ത ഭേദപ്പെട്ട ഒരു ഫിലിം.
സംവിധായകന്‍ മോഹനന് ഒരു നല്ല സിനിമ ഉണ്ടാക്കണം എന്ന ആത്മാര്‍ഥമായ ആഗ്രഹം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു.പക്ഷെ തികച്ചും ശരാശരി എന്ന് പറയുന്ന ഒരു കഥയില്‍ നിന്നും കൂടുതല്‍ ഒന്നും നമുക്ക് കിട്ടില്ലല്ലോ .
SSLC പരീക്ഷക്ക്‌ 100 % പേരും തോറ്റ ഒരു സ്കൂളിനെ നന്നാക്കാന്‍ വിനയചന്ദ്രന്‍ എന്ന മാഷ്‌ നടത്തുന്ന പ്രവര്‍ത്തനങ്ങള്‍ ആണ് ഈ സിനിമ .
എം. ജയചന്ദ്രന്റെ ഈണങ്ങള്‍ ശരാശരിയിലും താഴ്ന്നത് ആയിരുന്നു

Manikya Kallu Movie Review

After mega Hit 'Kadhaparayumbol', Director M. Mohan's second flick "Manikya Kallu" released today(5th May 2011) with good opening and good response.
The movie stars Prithviraj as VinayaChandran (a School Teacher), Samvrutha Sunil (Sports Teacher) Nedumudi Venu (Head Master) and also casr includes Jagadish, Salim Kumar, Jagathy Sreekumar, Kottayam Nazir, Anoop Chandran,Anil Murali, Suresh Krishna, KPAC Lalitha, Sona Nair etc.


Manikyakkallu is being produced under the banner of Gouri Meenakshi Movies.
The story happens in a government school(Vannanmaala Govt school) that had a glorious past but is now on the verge of being shut down as there are less than 50 students enrolled there. The teachers have lost all hope about making a difference to the situation and are busy with their personal activities. The results for the final examinations are pathetic, to say the least. Considering all this, when a young teacher named Vinayachandran (Prithviraj) requests for a transfer to the school, it comes as a surprise to every one, especially to those working there.




The major highlight of the film is Prithviraj's performance. Manikya Kallu is a pleasant movie like M.Mohan's debut 'Kathaparayumbol', where you will find humor and sentiments in the right dose. M.Mohan who always steer clear of gimmicks has this time too given a classic film but with all commercial ingredients. His characters are very real and human.




Samvrutha Sunil gives an ok performance.Jagadish, Salim Kumar, Jagathy Sreekumar, Kottayam Nazir, Anoop Chandran,Anil Murali, Suresh Krishna, KPAC Lalitha, Sona Nair have given an outstanding performance. Songs by M. Jayachandran-Anil Panachooraan team apts for the theme.

Another main positives of the flick is Cinematography by P. Sukumar and Art creation of Santosh Raman. The script is also dotted with characters to give the feel of a microcosmic village and school surroundings. All others in the technical crew is in perfect sync with the mood of the theme, that really needed to be addressed in this impact.


In the end, 'Manikya Kallu' turns out to be a delightful experience and is a simple or small film with a big heart!


Verdict: Good...♪♪

Most of the films with an optimistic theme have non-realistic story. This one too isn't an exception. But the good part is that the director made a beautiful film out of it. It's a highly recommended film and a deals with a very important social issue, that is about the teachers of today.

Comparing to Katha Parayumbol, its similar in the village background, some characters, comedy scenes, etc. But a big difference is that, in the former, the climax contains the core part of the film, whereas here its distributed throughout the film as several touching scenes.

Coming to the casting, its done pretty well. Prithviraj is apt for the role in looks but its not a very challenging role. Samvrutha just exists for the sake of a heroine, and she's also good. There's no exceptional performance anywhere but there aren't any bad performances also. The school children acted pretty well.

The songs are just average and unnecessary. Some cliched characters shown in every village based films are there in this one too. Several comedy one-liners in the initial part of the film didn't work out well. And as I said earlier the story isn't very realistic in the sense that things start getting better very easily without much of a struggle.

Overall for this simple, slow and beautiful film, I give a rating 6.5/10. I feel the director has succeeded in making what he wanted to in the first part.

Synopsis - The film deals with a completely written off school n the changes that occur with the entry of Vinayachandran (Prithviraj).
.
Script & Direction - After experiencing his first film (Kadha Parayumbol),I really didn't give much expectations regarding this film.Especially since the director M Mohannan decided to script the film n thus erase the ongoing discussions regarding Sreenivasan's role (as a writer,actor,producer) in his debut work.The film starts off normally just like K:P by introducing each characters n their viewpoint regarding the subject of the film untill the film get its grip with the entry of Vinayachandran.First off all,hats off to the director to cast Prithviraj in this role.Normally,he would have opted Mohanlal,Jayaram or Dileep to enact this role.So a certain amount of freshness was brought within the cast itself.Except Prithviraj,rest all were more or less the same actors you expect in this film.Now getting into the film,it reminds you of "Doore Dorre Koodu Kootam" and Prithviraj's character reminds you of the ones played by Mammotty in "Kochu Themmadikal" & "Anubandham".As usual,the director maintained a feel good factor throughout the film.There wasn't any scene particularly added so as to raise some laughter.But i wished the director/writer could have taken a certain effort to focus on the changes Vinayachandran did rather opting the predictable way.Also I felt the director/writer looked slightly listless during the second half where 2-3 sub plots to develop romance,motive & too many songs (at least two can be avoidable) made the film a bit too lengthy.Also he could have avoided the over-glorification of the protagonist.The climax is predictable inspite an attempted effort to surprise the audience.

Cast & Performance - Prithviraj is the life of this film.Its a fact that he may not have reached the levels of Mohanlal in Doore Doore Koodu Kootam (Chammal Scenes) or Mammotty in Anubandham & Kochu Themmadikal,He was sincere and a genuine effort was visible from his performance onscreen.With this performance,he clearly earned an edge over his other competitors like Kunchachko Boban,Narien,Jayasurya etc etc with this role.Also its a relief from his usual angry man roles.One thing he could avoided was the taking of breath prior to a strong reply.It slightly affected the genuineness of his performance.Samrutha Sunil looked cute as the P:T Teacher Chandini.Nedumudi Venu does the role nth time in his career.Jagathi was brilliant as the spirit dealer.Jagadeesh was genuinely funny (slightly reminded me of his performance in Mukhachitram) eventhough he could have avoided his weird wig.Anil Murali was effective in his role.Salimkumar wasn't given the freedom to run through n thus delivered an earnest performance.Suresh Krishna as usual looked good in the uniform.P Sreekumar,Saikumar,Bindhu Panicker,KPAC Lalitha,Indrans didn't have anything to do.Jayachandran's cameo was totally avoidable.

Songs & Background Score - The romantic number "Chembarathi.." sung by Shreya Ghosal & newcomer Ravishankar is the best songs of the lot.It was well picturised too."Nadayaal.." sung by another newcomer Sherdin reminded me of "Vysthysathanamoru.." from Kadha Parayumbol."Olakkuda.." is the song to develop the relationship between Vinayachandran n his students.Melemanath... was the song to picturise Vinayachandran's effort to bring some changes into the school.Then there is a song to show Vinayachandran's childhood.The background score was average n looked like the reword of Kadha Parayumbol.

Technical Expertise - P Sukumar opted for a natural frame to narrate the whole story.The editing by Ranjan Abraham really required some cuts n thus improve the pace of the film.
.
Bottomline -This is a feel good film with nothing new to expect.But considering the fact that we are in mid of loud commercial bonanzas which doesn't have any sort of identity of a Malayalam Cinema,This will not let you down.Also watch this to experience a different Prithviraj.

manikyakalu is a movie which says about a school where every students in 10th failed. the school is in the black list. it was due the less committed teachers and students who come from a bad family background. but after the arrival of the protagonist vinayachandran change suddenly happens.

the film has got a great concept with a gud message.The scripting is really appreciable . i appreciate mohan for such a wonderful work. everyone in the movie did a great job. if you wanna see prithviraj as a normal human being here is a chance. he did an excellent job.. supported by nedumudi venu and salim kumar.

the film has goodness of the rural..also the frames makes us nostalgic. really everyone i request u al to see this film. its really a film with "malayalithwam " ...

negatives are there like samwrithas acting is really worse also some songs is not at the correct time.. overall a gud movie.. i go with 7 / 10 for the movie.. please watch..

Salim kumar-peon...Good performance..i liked his performance very well

once Vinayachandran,new master enters into that school with one mission in mind...and he started to achieve his goal with the help of peon...one song in that time...now 12 students and their life,some scenes were good in that category...one tour song...

At the starting all coworkers are against vinayachandran..BUT LATER ALL ARE UNITED 2GETHER TO ACHIEVE THAT GOAL AND FINALLY THEY WON...

vinayachandran's flash back and love song comes in between these incidents...final song with salim kumar in the lead was good...all oher songs were also good...

no fights,no slow motions...

Sooper Hero introduction,Interval punch,Suspense twist..all these factors are not included in this film,which was good...

12 students ...performed well,key factors of this film...

Prithwi as vinayachjandran also good,some expressions are not upto the mark...

one time watchable film......bt theatre response was very poor...

Saw the movie in in word v can say a gud family entertainer.prithvi did his role well .after a long gap i am cing as an ordinary man script is average only and remaing including cast songs al r gud. families lik this movie very much
verdict= 7/10(average to hit due to the low cost)

Manikyakkallu - My Review

Another good one from M. Mohanan..

M. Mohanan is a director who can tell village stories with amazing Visuals
as we experienced in Sathyan Anthikkad movies..
some scenes were really touching for me.. I liked it..

Movie is bit slow/dragging here and there..
still, I liked it.. Must Watch..

Saw Manikyakallu. A simple movie executed beautifully. Great concept and had a smart script. 'Kadha parayumbol' has been influenced in many scenes. Prithviraj did a good job. Nedumudi venu's character show some shades of the character which he had played in the movie " doore doore oru koodu kootam". Salim kumar's performance was appreciable.Samvritha was bad and there are untimely songs in the movie and the movie ispredictable.It would have been a unforgettable experience if the script has been more tighter. Overall a good movie with a good message. 7/10

Simple yet it could have been better!

Manikyakall is a simple movie with a good message..
The theme,message is good.. Pritviraj rocked in the role of vinayachandran mash..
His role was too nostalgic.. I was able to visualize some of my school teachers in that :-)

The negatives of the movie is the story is too simple that it can be told in just 1.5 hours..
Baaki valich neetiyata.. The songs in the second half was not at all needed..

2.5 manikoor ilengil padam odilla enna vishwasam anu ee padathe chadhichat/..

Wasted my time and money.... could have made better, could have sent a strong msg to society....script was bad... Pritvi's head weight seen in the character which ought to be humble...

Simple way of narrating a good story. Aadyamayi prithvirajinte oru padam aaswadichu kandu :) Samvrita was too gud. Heroism kaanikaathe thanne nalla oru impact undaakkaan directorinu kazhinju.
